TORA TORA TORA !

You  are under attack.

Hindustan Times will now sell for 96 p per day !

Does that mean you too must lower your price ?

A price-war is a war that no one wins and everyone  loses.

On other hand, the Economic Times ( dt. 10/06/05 ), claims to be winning the war, based on

The Power Of Knowledge

From 2002 to 2005, its subscription has gone up by 27%.

May be ET offers “Great  Content” to its readers.

Much in the same way what  STAR TV plans to offer through  KBC 2
( Kaun Banega Crorepati ? )

“ By the time the show goes on air on Aug 6,  Star expected to rake in Rs. 100 crore from its main and associate sponsors and another Rs. 50 crores from regular ad-spots during the telecast ” ( Fin. Express / June 10, 2005 )

Why ? Because millions of unemployed would have nothing else to do – except watch the Big B – and improve STAR’s TRP.

Given an option, they would anyday, prefer to read,

COVERING LETTER

Dear Sir / Madam,

Double Your Circulation ?
( or  Your Viewership / Website Visitors )

This is a very tantalizing thought but entirely probable (-not merely possible).

Circulation is a function of “Content”.

If your publication offers “News” that your readers can immediately “Use”, circulation is bound to double or even triple.

In a country where 44 million unemployed are registered with 943 employment exchanges, job-related information is the most sought – after “news”.

Sure some 2000+ fresh jobs are getting posted on  200+ Indian jobsites everyday, but the questions are:

  • How many of the unemployed in your circulation – zone, have access to internet ?
  • How many of these unemployed can  afford to spend Rs. 30/day, searching for jobs on these jobsites from a cybercafe ?
  • Must small town jobseekers, remain deprived of job-related information  ( - a question of ROTI – KAPADA – MAKAN – MARRIAGE ! ) – with nearly 90% of jobs located in 6 metros ?
  • Can you do something to give these small-town jobseekers, a “level-playing-field”, vis-à-vis urban youths ?

Yes, you can.

In your publication, you can print everyday, a brief summary of latest jobs, posted on major jobsites during past 24 hours. Jobs available in 14 major cities. Or even display this summary on  your website, if you have one.

That will enable your unemployed readers to email their resumes directly to 500 job-advertisers, once a week ( for Rs. 5 from a nearby cybercafe ).

And to get this neat Job Advt. Summary ( JAS), all you need to do is to register on

(Over Times of India)

Dear Editor - Broadcaster - Publisher:

Times of India has its own job-portal

Timesjobs.Com

So, it offers “free-posting” of its print-media job-advts on the job portal.

And vice-versa

See enclosed cutting ( dt. June 12, 2005 )

A jobseeker reading  this “summary” (?), would need,

·     PC+ Internet Connection ( + one hour of search)
·     5 steps on timesjobs.com before he can “apply online” ( only 3 steps listed ).

Then again, in many cases, this “summary” does not mention

·     Name of Advertising/Employer Company
·     City of Posting

Without this crucial info, no jobseeker would even want to log into timesjobs.com to find out, whether a job is interesting or not !

Now compare this, with JAS ( Job Advt. Summary ) sample enclosed. It contains all the essential information that a jobseeker needs to,

·     Make up his mind               ( interested or not )
·     Apply                 ( email ID of advertiser )

Incidentally, Times Of India will not print/publish jobs posted on Monster/ Naukri/ JobsAhead etc. But the employed want to see all jobs – posted everywhere.

It is quit clear.

Your “Competitive Advantage” is

Job Advt. Summary (JAS)

You don’t need your own job-portal. Treat World-Wide-Jobs as your own. !
